Health & Fitness Motivation: “Is Obsession A Dirty Word?”

We should all be trying to do things that improve the quality our lives. Wether that’s improving our fitness through healthy eating and exercise, or improving our relationships with friends and family. These are all important aspects that need attention and dedication. Let me share with you some of the inspiration and motivation I use to keep improving on these things.

Don’t let others get in the way of your health and fitness goals

Today I posted this on Facebook:

“What can I do today to improve my relationships, my business, my family, my training? I have to work hard on each of those things to be successful in them. No excuses.”

Nothing wrong with that, I don’t think? I want to improve my business, so I have a better quality of life financially. Improving my relationships with friends and family will improve harmony and my happiness. I want to improve my fitness, why? Because I want better quality of life, physically. I want to be jumping at 80!

I got quite a few comments and most were positive like:

“Yeah, that’s right!” “Beautiful” “ This is spot on Peter…” etc.

Then, a friend of mine replies with this:

“Sounds like you’re very upbeat, and positive, and motivated mister…chill out man!”

WTF? chill out? WHY? Is it wrong to feel upbeat? Positive? Motivated? Did I miss something; all of a sudden this is a bad thing?

Or is it making this person feel uncomfortable because I am improving what is around me, and they want to pull me down to their level?

People will try try to pull you down because they aren’t happy with themselves

The point I am trying to make is you are always going to have people criticizing you for improving your life and trying to get you back into old habits.

They feel that if you improve your health and fitness they need to improve theirs, but they don’t want to and feel uncomfortable doing it. They are in their comfort zone and you are rocking their boat. So, it is much easier for them to try and pull you back down again. Back to their level.

Look at the smoker trying to quit. His friend asks if he wants a smoke:

“No mate, I’m quitting”
“Yeah right! Have a ciggie will ya!”

And they try and convince that person to give up on their quest to stop smoking. Great mate you have there! We all have them or have had them.

Negative people will bring you down with them

Trying to improve your life and starting your life change program is a GOOD thing! Don’t ever forget that. However, you will always have friends, family, co-workers, someone trying to pull you back because THEY don’t want to change.

THEY feel uncomfortable with your change. Lose those people! Yes lose them! Tell them:

“This is what I want! If you don’t like what I’m doing too bad, you are either in, or you are in the way”

Simple!

Surround yourself with positive people for health and fitness motivation

Never stop trying. Never! I used to smoke, for many years. I tried to quit and I tried to quit every single day for over 3 years!!! Every single day! No joke!

Some days I would last an hour or two. Others I would last the whole day. Sometimes 2 weeks. I was surrounded by smokers who always smoked around me, in the car, always offered me cigarettes, always putting me down and saying things like:

“Giving up is stupid, you’ll never give up…”
“Here have a cigarette and stop being stupid…”

When you need moral support, you don’t need that – You need positive people!

I got rid of those friends and started hanging with people that encouraged me to improve, encouraged me to stop smoking, encouraged me to get back into my fitness training. They are the sort of people you want to find and spend your time with. These are the type of blokes we have training at the Alpha Male Project, near Malabar.
